Can’t believe it’s come round so fast!

I had my first day at school last week – puppy training classes.  This is where we went…

The good news?  I wasn’t expelled.

The bad news?  Well, there isn’t any really.  I was actually very good.

We were taught how to sit, lie down, and walk on a loose lead.  All done with the encouragement of treats.  Well, I ask you, which self-respecting Labrador isn’t going to do those simple tasks when there’s food involved? And. though I say it myself, I was particularly good at walking on a loose lead.  But then I have been practising walking to heel with no lead at all during my daily walks in the woods.

I was slightly concerned to hear though that the food rewards are going to be gradually withdrawn once I have learned the trick.  Hmmm.  Not sure what I think about that.

Before we started the class we spent some time socialising with the other puppies.  I particularly liked “Pickle,” another Labrador.  You couldn’t call her a yellow or a white Lab though.  She was a lovely creamy colour with a coffee coloured back.  She was beautiful and we played a lot.  But she was also much smaller than me which was interesting considering she is only six days younger than I am.  Mum and Dad said that it proved one thing; that all the people who kept saying “He’s going to be a big boy,” were obviously right.

Pickle was very different to me in another way too, according to M & D.  When told to sit she did do gracefully and with her legs tucked in – very proper – like a ballerina.  M & D said that I, on the other hand, looked like a gangly teenager.  Less like Nureyev, more like Goofy.
